The project investigates the interplay between new materials and contemporary design, exploring innovative approaches to traditional craftsmanship.
It centers on the design of a partition wall made from Date Skin Bioplastic and Frankincense, both locally sourced materials with deep cultural significance. The proposal involves the creation of a set of tiles crafted from these materials, woven into a wooden framework that emphasizes both their aesthetic and functional properties.
DESCRIPTION︎︎︎
This commission is part of an ongoing investigation of "Architecture of Culture," a research initiative aimed at merging modern design with Emirati traditions.
As part of this project, a publication was showcased at Milan Design Week, highlighting not only the rich cultural heritage of the UAE but also exploring new "recipes" for contemporary craft practices.
Through this exploration, the project seeks to redefine the intersection between tradition, material innovation, and design, offering new insights into how cultural narratives can be expressed through architecture and craft.
