LIGA, 'Space for Architecture', is an independent initiative aimed at bringing visibility to voices and practices within the field. Through the LIGA/ARCHIVOS project, the goal is to deepen a program focused on looking to the past. As part of this initiative, LIGA-ARCHIVOS explores documents, magazines, and books from the Archive of the Faculty of Architecture at UNAM. Within this framework, LIGA invited four architects to reflect on the UNAM digital archive, with the aim of shedding light on and valuing significant stories that contribute to the modern landscape of architectural practice.

DESCRIPTION︎︎︎

The initial exploration of the UNAM digital archive was marked by a sense of uncertainty—unsure of where to begin, what to search for, or what might be uncovered. Guided by an almost random approach, magazines were selected, with "Traza" being one of the first to be accessed, as it had been available during student years. From there, several articles from the magazine Arquitectos de México were discovered. The focus was on selecting texts that dealt with the development of architectural thought and the potential for infusing content into discourse, whether from practice or academia. These writings offer valuable insights for constructing meaningful narratives within contemporary architectural practices.

The second selection serves as a complement to the first, showcasing the ideas of various architects, interviewed and analyzed through a constructive critique of their architectural work. Finally, five texts on postmodernism were chosen, intended to inform a critical examination of current architectural practices in the country. Overall, this collection reflects personal interests related to the creation of an ideology rich in meaning, one that enables the development of a unique language through exploration and experimentation.
